# Introduction

> Connect Claude and other AI tools to your company's books in Finta

The Finta MCP server lets AI tools like Claude and Codex work with your company's books. Your assistant can look up your accounts and upload transactions from a bank or card export, acting as you. You sign in with your Finta account, so there is no API key to create or paste.

[MCP](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI tools to apps like Finta.

## What you can do

The server has three tools today:

| Tool | What it does | Permission |
| - | - | - |
| `list_accounts` | Lists the company's bank, credit card, and other accounts that transactions come from. | Transactions: View |
| `create_account` | Adds a manual bank or credit card account to upload transactions to. If a matching manual account already exists, it returns that one instead. | Transactions: Manage |
| `upload_transactions` | Uploads bank or credit card transactions from a file or pasted data into one account. Nothing shows up in Finta until the upload passes its checks and is committed, and you can review or undo it afterward. | Transactions: Manage |

Ask in plain language and your assistant picks the tool, for example *"What accounts do we have in Finta?"* or *"Upload our Chase CSV to Finta."*

## Connect

The server URL is:

```
https://mcp.finta.com/mcp
```

Use the full address, including `/mcp`.

### Claude Code

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the Finta MCP server">
    ```bash theme={null}
    claude mcp add --transport http --scope user finta https://mcp.finta.com/mcp
    ```

    `--scope user` makes Finta available in every project, not only the current folder.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in">
    Start Claude Code, run `/mcp`, select `finta`, and choose **Authenticate**. In the browser window that opens, log in to Finta, choose a company, and click **Allow access**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test the connection">
    Ask Claude *"What accounts do we have in Finta?"*
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Claude

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add a custom connector">
    In Claude, go to **Customize > Connectors**, click **+ Add**, then **Add custom connector**. Name it **Finta** and enter `https://mcp.finta.com/mcp` as the URL. If the menus look different, follow [Anthropic's guide to custom connectors](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11175166-getting-started-with-custom-connectors-using-remote-mcp).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in">
    When Claude asks you to sign in, log in to Finta, choose a company, and click **Allow access**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test the connection">
    Ask Claude *"What accounts do we have in Finta?"*
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds the connector under **Organization settings > Connectors**. Each member then connects it from **Customize > Connectors** and signs in with their own Finta account.
</Note>

### Codex

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the Finta MCP server">
    ```bash theme={null}
    codex mcp add finta --url https://mcp.finta.com/mcp
    ```

    Codex saves the server to `~/.codex/config.toml`, which the Codex CLI, the Codex IDE extension, and the ChatGPT desktop app share, so Finta works in all three.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in">
    Codex opens Finta in your browser as soon as the server is added. Log in, choose a company, and click **Allow access**. To sign in again later, run `codex mcp login finta`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test the connection">
    Ask Codex *"What accounts do we have in Finta?"*
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Other MCP clients

Add `https://mcp.finta.com/mcp` as a remote MCP server using the Streamable HTTP transport, then follow your client's prompt to sign in.

Finta signs clients in with OAuth and supports both Client ID Metadata Documents and Dynamic Client Registration, so you don't need to register a client with Finta first. Request both the `finta:read` and `finta:write` scopes; a connection with only `finta:read` can't use tools that change data. API keys don't work with the MCP server.
