Split transaction
Splits one transaction into lines, the same as “Split transaction” in the Finta app. Each
line has its own amount, category, merchant, department and spread, and the lines’ signed
amount_cents must add up exactly to the transaction’s. The transaction then has
transaction_type: split, the Split category and status: approved, and
GET /transactions/splits lists its lines.
A line’s merchant defaults to the transaction’s. Leave out a line’s department_id to give
it the transaction’s department, or send null for none. Only lines in a category that can
have a department, such as an expense, take one: an inherited department is dropped from any
other line, and sending department_id for one is refused. Income and expense lines can be
spread and can have their own accounting_date, which defaults to the transaction’s accounting
date; other lines are always booked on the transaction’s date.
Only a transaction in USD that isn’t split already can be split. A transaction that paid an invoice, a matched transfer, a spread transaction (spread its lines instead), a capitalized purchase, and one in a department split or a payroll split are refused, because splitting would double count or undo them. Requires Transactions: Manage.
